9:10 AM - 9:40 AM International Keynote: How Has Google Designed an Ecosystem That Balances Flexibility, Choice and Presence?

Jeremy Neuner, Real Estate and Workplace Services, Google
With the world making a move to mobility and freelancing, Google has established that their workplace ethos better aligns with presence. With Gmail being invented over lunch by a couple of guys scribbling ideas, it is no wonder that Google want to keep up an environment where everyone attends work and one that fosters interaction.
Jeremy was also CEO and Founder of ‘NextSpace’ one of the first coworking spaces to get any scale at all – and this sensibility has influenced his experience at Google where he now helps lead a team that creates great workplace solutions for nearly 30,000 Googlers. In this session Jeremy will discuss:

  • Building strong communities by creating great teams and imagining collaborative environments where they can thrive
  • What choices can we give employees whilst still preserving the ecosystem that works for the organisation
  • What does work mean these days and what are the implications of working from anywhere

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Challenging ABW: Are Open Plan Offices the Solution or Are They Swaying Us Away From Deep Work?

Clinton Parr, Head of People and Culture, Clemenger BBDO
Advertising agencies are notorious for having edgy, creative and cool workplaces with Clemenger BBDO’s award winning Sydney offices being no different. The office is entirely open plan with features such as "work book" spaces incorporating large rotating presentation panels, allowing creative engagement within teams and with clients. In this session Clinton will discuss whether the pendulum is swinging too far and whether mobility is compromising the ability to complete work outcomes.

  • The concept of ‘Deep Work’ and the benefits of focus in a distracting environment
  • Creating spaces where people can really focus and get into a state of flow
  • Open plan offices as distracting: will the pendulum swing back to sitting in one space and getting things done
